Maggie* came to A Woman’s Choice strongly leaning towards abortion. Having a baby did not fit into her plan to attend college. Her advocate spent a lot of time explaining the abortion pill and all the potential side effects. Maggie politely said her friends have had abortions and never struggled, so she felt confident she would be fine.

Maggie’s advocate knew a precious life was on the line and felt she was getting nowhere with this young woman. She prayed silently, asking God to give her the right words. The Holy Spirit led her to talk about the emotional and relational effects of abortion—something Maggie hadn’t yet considered. During that part of their discussion, Maggie said she loved her boyfriend, and they recently talked about marriage.

The advocate asked her if her parents knew about the pregnancy, and she said no. Only her boyfriend and his mom knew, and she wanted to keep it that way. Her advocate explained that an abortion was the “secret” that would always be between her and her boyfriend. Maggie never considered the impact an abortion could have on their relationship—the memory of their first child being aborted would always be a part of their story. In addition, if and when they got pregnant again, another baby could be a constant reminder of the past hurt. Eventually, guilt and resentment could settle in and ruin their marriage. We’ve seen this happen, so we know it’s not unfounded. Maggie got very emotional, and her advocate could see God working in her heart.

Then, Maggie had an ultrasound…and everything changed. Seeing the image of her baby made her realize she could not go through with an abortion! After her ultrasound, she requested to see her advocate once more. Maggie thanked her for their discussion and the things her advocate brought to light. Maggie said the effect an abortion would have on her relationship with her boyfriend made a big difference in her thought process, and the ultrasound confirmed her change of heart. Praise the Lord!

When Maggie thanked her advocate, she ultimately thanked YOU, our generous supporter.  Because of you, hearts are changed and lives that were once on the line are saved! We are grateful to God for you and can never thank you enough.
