Rebecca’s Heart Fall Newsletter Article

October is a very exciting month for us, but especially so this year as we celebrate 35 years of saving lives, and saving souls!  We are two weeks away from our Annual Walk for Life, which helps propel us into another year of ministry, but as we prepare for another year, it has been a delight reflecting on how the Lord has provided over the past 35 years.  I am reminded of Psalm 9:1, “I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.”  I hope reading our history will bring encouragement to your heart, and motivation to continue partnering with us.

“I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.”

A Woman’s Choice was officially incorporated as Southside Crisis Pregnancy Center and began its life-saving work in 1987 when I was graduating high school.  So here I am, and here the ministry is, 35 years later, both older, wiser, and more mature, but also not finished yet!

When AWC began, we were a smaller, simpler ministry, yet we were driven by the same passion and mission that drives us today—saving lives and saving souls.  God moved the hearts of a small group of Christian men and women at Southside Baptist Church to reach women facing unplanned pregnancies with the truth of the gospel and life-saving information about alternatives to abortion, and they responded in faith to create our ministry.  In the past 35 years, we have grown in wonderful ways, yet we remain committed to our core mission as much as ever.

Some of the changes we have seen over these past few decades include: changes in name and location, adding medical services of ultrasound and testing for STIs, developing support programs that provide education and material supplies, creating a program to reach teens in our community with a sexual health and relationship education message, expanding to a second building, growing our marketing to reach more women seeking abortions, building a program to reach men, and soon coming, the addition of a mobile medical unit.  We have also grown our staff, volunteers, and supporting individuals and churches throughout the community.  Every step, every change, and every new development that has happened over the past 35 years was to reach more, serve more and save more.  We praise God that from 2003 to 2022 2,913 lives have been saved, and 830 patients found eternal life in Christ.

All of us at A Woman’s Choice are so thankful to God for all He has done to grow this ministry and its impact since we first began.  Ultimately, this is HIS work, not ours.  We are building HIS Kingdom, not ours.  But we are so grateful that He chooses to use all of us—you included—to accomplish this work.  As we thank God for 35 years of ministry, we thank God for YOU!
